Definity Engineering Summer Camp 2026.
Build it. Program it.
Race it.
An autonomous electric vehicle competition for high school students.
by
Definity Education is running the hardware engineering track of Stardance — Hack Club's online summer builder activation for ages 13–18. Summer Camp participants are eligible for Stardance funding and prizes.
Design, build, program, race.
Most summers are forgettable. This one won't be. The Definity Engineering Summer Camp puts you in a room with other serious builders — and gives you six weeks to design, build, and program a working autonomous vehicle from the ground up.
You don't need a résumé. You don't need to have built anything before. You need to want to make something — and be willing to actually do it. Age is not the limit here. Drive is.
Teams of five compete across six engineering events. Mentors and working engineers are on the floor throughout — not lecturing, building alongside you. You'll learn mechanical design, electrical integration, and autonomous-vehicle software, then prove it under competition conditions.
Officially the Autonomous EV Engineering Challenge.
A series of technical challenges.
Sprint Race
Straight-line speed over 100 feet. Fastest time wins.
Speed Gate
Cross two timing sensors at a qualifying speed. Tests pure top-end velocity.
Vision Navigation
Navigate a cone-defined course using onboard cameras and computer vision only. GPS prohibited.
Terrain Course
Drive across varied surfaces — packed gravel, sand, wooden boards, loose dirt.
Obstacle Maze
Find the exit autonomously. Layout revealed an hour before the run.
Weight Dispensing
Carry a 7-pound payload and drop it into a target bucket. Precision counts.
Apply for the inaugural program.
Open to serious builders in grades 9–12. Los Angeles, Summer 2026.
