After-School Engineering
For students in grades 9–12 in Hawthorne, California. Work with a team to build rockets and formula-style race cars. Learn the engineering by doing the work, testing your designs, and working through problems.

Your team makes design decisions, orders parts, manages a budget, and tests its work. You’ll encounter things you haven’t learned yet. Use resources to understand them, apply what you learn, and see whether your design improves.
Engineers and mentors will ask you to explain your decisions, challenge your assumptions, and help you identify the next step. You’re expected to investigate problems and develop your own understanding, then put it to work on the project.
Sessions meet on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Students are expected to attend all three each week.
No previous engineering experience is required. Come ready to take initiative, work with a team, and keep trying when your first approach doesn’t work.
What you'll build.
Design, build, and launch.
Work out how the parts of a rocket fit together, build your own, and see how it performs in flight. Use the results to improve the next one.
Build a formula-style race car.
Work with your team on the car’s structure, electronics, and assembly. Research what you need to understand, test your work, and make changes as the build progresses.
Join the team.
